Orthotics

Orthotics will restore alignment and offer arch support, shock absorption to the joints and soft tissues and improve foot function.

Your feet are your body’s foundation. The most common foot imbalance is excessive pronation. That is, when the feet roll in or the arch collapses. This causes rotation of the ankles, knees and hips which can then lead to further problems.

Approximately 70% of the population suffer from over-pronation of the ankles or ‘flat feet.’ You can be born with excessive pronation or more commonly, it is an ageing process where our ligaments, tendons and arches become looser. The first sign of over-pronation can be when we discover we suddenly need larger size footwear.

Others who may benefit from orthotics include diabetics, sportsmen and women, people who are over-weight, who stand all day as part of their job, sufferers of lower back, knee, hip or ankle pain, who are hypermobile, suffer from bunions, arthritis, Gout, corns or hard skin.

Podiatrists and Foot Health Professionals  can advise on the best orthotics for your feet and lifestyle in clinic. They will carry-out a Muscular-Skeletal Assessment (MSK) and Gait Analysis. Discussing the patients’s lifestyle, taking a medical history and checking the general health of the feet and giving exercises to do at home are also an important part of the consultation and treatment. I prescribe Vasyli semi-custom orthotics in my clinics in Lymington and Tring. These include full length, 3/4, Easyfit for fashion shoes, Slimfit for high heels and Vasyli Prior which fits into low-profile footwear such as low-profile sports shoes.

I also sell off-the-shelf orthotics and supports by ICB, Strive, Vionic and Orthosole to extend and supplement your orthotic-wearing. These are helpful when prescription orthotics do not fit into certain footwear. The ICB Dress Style is my best-selling orthotic as it fits into most fashion footwear including ladies fashion shoes, ankle boots, canvas lace-ups, etc. There’s also a slim 2/3 length for high heels and difficult to fit footwear.

Vionic, ICB and Ortho Sole orthotics can be bought online as an addition to your orthotic needs, but for expert advice in getting the right orthotic insoles for your lifestyle and foot complaint Lorna would recommend a Gait Analysis and fitting of semi-custom orthotics by Vasyli first. Please contact Lorna to arrange an appointment or for advice on which orthotics would suit your feet.

To extend your orthotic-wearing time, I recommend and sell Vionic and Strive Orthotic footwear including sandals, flip flops, slippers and more. Available from the website or in clinic. Free p&p and 30 day Returns.
